K. Jones

This review is from: Bose® QuietComfort® 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® Headphones (Electronics)Frankly, I think these new Bose headphones put the QC-2 to shame!

I’ve owned both QC-2 and QC-3 headphones for for a couple years, and their predecessor before that. My home is in a rural area that over time has become increasingly noisy with automobile traffic, chain saws, weed

whackers, air travel, boats, etc, so have become a great fan of noise-cancelling headphones, which for me provide respite against all this sonic assault.

When I read the specs of the QC 15, I thought, if these are an improvement over the QC-2, I’ll have to try them. This in the face of feeling sheepish about blowing another $300 for what I feared might be a trivial difference in quality.

I needn’t have worried. When I turned on the QC 15, it was like shutting off the world. The loud rushing sound emitted by the air filter running 15 feet away became nearly inaudible, the low rumble of distant boat, air, and automobile traffic disappeared altogether. The background hiss generated by the QC-15 is noticeably quieter than the QC-2, and the noise cancellation, as Bose advertises, covers much more of the audio range. My QC-2 headset doesn’t do nearly as good job at cancelling the white noise from the air filter as the QC-15, for example.

She’s not a cook – shes a drunk with a bunch of terrible shortcuts and tricks.

facebook login???????

ok so everytime i try logging into facebook it says “account temporarily unavalible” and like stuff about site maintenance…. it says try back in a few hours. but this has been happening since friday night i couldnt login at all yesterday and now this morning it says the same thing

is there anything i can do to fix this?
is it normal?

headphones answers:

Do a google search on facebook site maintenance limited to the last 24 hours or a week and you will see there is a major problem with one of the databases. I have been down since last Sunday. The site error I see when I sign in is an expanded site maintenance error. They finally acknowledged on Tuesday that they have a problem with one of the databases. There is a pretty good explanation in an article on Cnet, among other places. My husband can sign onto his account just fine. So it is just one database, although I see posts of other people having different, minor problems.

Wayne asks…

Facebook login?

Ever since I got a a face book I can’t get on, only on my computer, I’ve tried changing my password, and it will login for a split second, and then it’ll say it’s incorrect. It works on other people’s computers. Is there any software I need? My computer is an HP. Also, my browser says something about the connection being encrypted.

headphones answers:

Perhaps you need to upgrade your internet browser
try upgrading your internet explorer browser (if thats the one u have, or whatever browser u have) to the latest version
that might do the trick
o also check ur cookie preferences
right click the internet explorer icon
click properties
then click on the third tab which is Privacy and check ur setttings
sometimes if ur computer blocks cookies ur facebook won’t login

Daniel asks…

How do you delete Facebook login history on a Mac?

headphones answers:

Click Safari in the menu bar, then click Reset Safari… Then deselect everything except Remove Saved names and passwords.

Helena asks…

My facebook login tells me that it is under site maintenance wont let me login for over 12 hours now?

When I try to login to facebook it keeps telling me that my profile is under site maintenance. This has been going on for over 12 hours now. What is going on with face book? Is my profile being hacked or what?

Same thing with me.

I contacted them, and they said this:

PostHeaderIcon Questions And Answers On Sound Cancelling Headphones

Caroline asks…

Which headphones are the best for your buck?

I’m looking for something loud and maybe sound cancelling for my college dorm so I can listen to whatever, whenever.

headphones answers:

I have the Bose Triports and they’re awesome. They are ultra light and comfortable. They aren’t noise canceling, but they are around-ear and the sound is loud and crystal clear. They’re around 150 dollars, but I’ve had mine for years and they’ve held up great. I think you can’t get them on e-bay for around 100 bucks or so.

Elizabeth asks…

Noise cancelling headphones?

I know noise canceling headphones cancel out noise by reading the sound then adding another noise 180 degrees out of phase of the original, but does it physically cancel out the noise you hear, or does that noise still reach your eardrum? I guess what I’m thinking is the noise still has to reach your eardrum, but the headphones “trick” your mind into thinking there is no noise. I work in a very noisy environment and am concerned the noise is still getting to my eardrums.

headphones answers:

Noise canceling is fairly easy.

To cancel noise, you feed the source you want into an op-amp on one side, and the noise source in on the other side, the result will be the source less the noise.

I like the LM741 since it has fair freq response and zero gain.

John asks…

What is wrong with my friends noise-cancelling headphones?

Hi

Not sure how to word or explain this correctly so bare with me here. Basically, my friend has a set of noise-cancelling headphones which when plugged into her stereo you can hear a faint hiss or burrrrrring sound which only stops if the wearer of the headphones places there finger on a metal surface on the stereo. However, if another person touches the metal surface who is not wearing the headphones the hiss or burrrrring sound does not go away. This only happens when the noise-cancelling mode is on and not when it is off. She’s asked me to find out what is causing the problem and I haven’t got a clue either. So I need some help here. Hope all that makes sense.

Thanks

Johnny

headphones answers:

It sounds as if it’s what is known as a shielding, “grounding” or earthing problem.

Yes, I know that doesn’t mean much to you! But is there anyone you know who has some knowledge of audio equipment? Maybe a science or physics teacher? Or do you know somebody who knows somebody who works with that sort of thing.

I don’t think it would be difficult to find the problem, just a bit time consuming.

Best of luck.

Mark asks…

Noise Cancelling Headphones?

can anyone recommend noise cancelling headphones that will eliminate (or greatly reduce) the sound of noisy children (i.e: younger brothers and sisters)

thanks
no more than £100 – by the way

headphones answers:

As Raj M stated above, those ones are rather good. A

Also there are various logitech ones in size and prices that do rather well at blocking out noise. Mine help rather well with my screeching mother.

Lynn asks…

what do noise cancelling headphones do?

Isn’t the point to hear something rather than cancelling it out? How does it improve sound?

headphones answers:

Noise cancelling headphones try to cancel outside noise. Noise that might interfere with the sound coming out of the headphones. The improve the sounds coming from the speakers in the headphones by trying to reduce OTHER sounds.

They do this with a microphone that listens to outside “ambient” noise, and then the headphone actually produces an inverse sound for that ambient noise, effectively cancelling it.

But there are limits to how much noise it can cancel. Loud, sharp noises-even speech, which is constantly changing, is harder to cancel. But droning, continuous sounds-lke airplane engines-is much easier, and the headphones can removes most of it. (of course, sitting on the airplane, you will still feel the vibrations of the engines transmitted through the plane, and the headphone can’t cancel that!) This is why they are popular for air travel.
For use around the house, they might not be as useful, and your money is probably better spent on a nice pair of headphones without this technology.

headphones answers:

It sounds like the Stereo is “Not” Grounded. As you have stated, once the person wearing the headphones touches the metal surface of the Stereo He/She actually grounds the stereo unit. Find out how you can Ground the Stereo Unit and the Noise, Hssssss’ing or Burrrrrr’ing should stop.

What is happening is that te stereo is conducting an open ended electrical connection without a grounding wire. Once you turn the stereo on, and since it is not grounded, you hereby get that Hssss or Burrrrr Sound.

Once that person, He/She actually touches the Stereo, He/She ends the grounding connection, meaning it closes the loose electrial dischage the stereo is putting out.

Chris asks…

Are Noise Cancelling Headphones good ?

Assuming that i live in a pretty lousy environment (home), i need something that would block the sounds from entering my ears.
I saw that noise cancelling headphones can make you ” not hear the outside and hear only the inside “.
But in the same time im concerned about this, i mean its not about a continuous sound but about a TV or vehicles or people talking.

And im trying to study and to program and to develop different projects on the computer, i really need some quiet.

And i cannot stop the noise i can only try to block my ears from hearing it. Just keep this in mind before you would tell me to close the windows or to ask people to close their TV (or at least to lower the volume of the TV).

headphones answers:

It depends how noisy it is…it probably won’t be silent but they do help. Without music or something playing, you can still hear everything but it’s muffled and dulled about like putting pillows over your ears.

I have some JVC Noise Canceling Headphones, they do a great job reducing the noise and if I have music or something playing, they do even better at eliminating room noise.

One thing — make sure you get some that actually cover your ears. They’re bigger, bulkier and look a bit outdated but they do a much better job than earbud-style…and cost a lot less too.

Rachel asks…

good noise cancelling headphones for under 200 $?

headphones you tryed your self … it has to have crisp sound and bass

headphones answers:

I recommend Bose ,Skullcany ,Beats by Dr.Dre.According to your budget ,you can get a very good headphone

Bose is a little expensive, but it is the best brand. The sound effect of Beats by dr.dre and Skullcandy are good and the style is so cool.So make a choice according to your need.

With headphones your kinda looking for trusted brands. Like Sennheiser, Shure, Bose, Jays etc.

The people on the website linked below know a lot more about headphones than I do. So you should go ask them in the forums :)

David asks…

Which music headphones are the best in cancelling out ambient noise?

We work in a dental office and would like provide our patients with DVD movies and satellite music during treatment. Which headphones work the best in cancelling out noises such as the drill sound? What specific features should we look for in a headphone? Thanks everyone in advance for your recommendations.
We are looking for headphones that are $80 or less.

headphones answers:

These links will help you out so that you do not get confused with all the headphone and earphone jargon that may be gibberish at first glance. Also you might want to consider IEM (in ear monitors) <- here is some of the that gibberish.. This basically means earphones that go into the ear, or rather in-ear earphones. In-ear earphones generally work best at cancelling out ambient noise. Read here for good information about that.

What specific features should we look for in a headphone?
Features and specifications can be misleading so know what they mean before you purchase.

Which headphones work the best in cancelling out noises such as the drill sound?
You might consider in-ear earphones to work the best. You can use the ear tips and sterilize the ear tips (also called sleeves, earbuds, etc) like you sterilize your dental tools. These may work best with your patients. Also in-ear earphones have a ranging size of ear tips that can fit children as well as adults. Good luck and I hope you get the best earphones / headphones for your patients. :)

Chris asks…

Are noise-cancelling headphones safe?

For example, I know that if you listen to loud music on a train, you can damage your hearing. Do the noise-cancelling headphones block the actual sound-waves from the train or whatever, or do they just add more sound-waves on top of them? Can this damage your ears?

headphones answers:

When you listen to loud music, you experience a temporary loss in hearing acuity, called a temporary threshold shift. If you’ve ever gone to a loud rock concert without ear plugs and noticed everything sounds kind of muffled for awhile, that’s what you experienced. Prolonged listening at loud volumes, however, can result in a permanent hearing loss.

Like other waves, the effect of sound waves are additive. Most people understand this intuitively — the sound of the train plus the sound of your MP3 player is more than the simple sound of your MP3 player. So most people do the wrong thing.. When the background noise increases, they up the MP3 player’s volume.

Noise canceling headphones actually do remove background noise. They use microphones in the headphone itself to sample background noise, then a signal processor to invert this signal and feed it to your ears. The result is that this signal adds to the total signal going to your ears, but since it’s essentially a negative of the noise part going to your ears, they sum to zero, or close to it. So yes, you are actually getting less volume into your ears with such an active noise canceling heaphone. And since the background noise is removed or greatly reduced, you can play your MP3 at a lower volume. So, compared to regular headphone use, this will do less long-term damage to your ears. Whether it does any or not depends on how loud you’re playing it, anyway.

It seems generally accepted that prolonged listening over 80dB(spl) can lead to long term hearing loss. You can certainly exceed that with active noise canceling headphones, passive noise canceling headphones (those are the ones that simply fit tight to hopefully block out external sounds, like headphones mixed with ear plugs or hearing protectors), or plain old everyday earbuds. You are more likely to hurt you hearing if you turn up the volume, and you’re more likely to turn up the volume if you’re trying to get your music level over that of competing background noise. So this kind of headphone can help prevent hearing loss, if you don’t otherwise abuse it.

Mike asks…

Is there any noise cancelling headphones which would allow me to sit and read in a noisy room?

I know the NC earphones are primarily designed to reduce the plane noise on flights but Im looking for some that I could wear whilst sitting in a room with say the tv or music on and they would block it out so i could read in peace?
Industrial earplugs and protectors are no good as they only block out sounds over a dangerous limit, they allow everything under that limit through.

Any ideas?

headphones answers:

I have Bose Quiet Comfort 2 headphones and they are perfecy for this.

Wayne asks…

Noise Cancelling Headphones?

I have High Functioning Autism and I want to know what type of noise cancelling headphones to get that are NOT electronic. I have regular headphones that block a little sound but I just want ones with no cords. Just good noise blockers.

Any ideas? I tried Googling but all I find are either kid ones or electronic ones/Bose ones.

headphones answers:

Check out your local gun dealer. He will have some that work great.

Nancy asks…

The Noise cancelling headphones?

um i have a question for the noise cancelling headphones im a bit confused. ok i know its for cancelling noises but, can you listen to music with it also? I have a psp and i was wondering if i buy the headphones can i listen to it on my psp? will it stop the noise off my psp? or let me listen to it? or will it block the noises besides the music and make the music sound louder?

headphones answers:

Noise cancelling headphones cancel the outside noise, ie. Cars, tv etc. When you plug it into your psp it will cancel out all the noise from outside and all the distractions. You should be able to hear whatever noise your psp makes.

Ken asks…

Local business making noise at night, what are my rights?

I moved into a property on Friday only to discover that the internet cafe, that backs on to my rented house, has an outside area for smoking and drinking alcohol.
The internet cafe is advertised as being open 12pm to 11pm. However, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday it was open until 1am, and last night it was open until 2am.

The noise is terrible people are talking loudly, laughing and last night at 12:30 they decided to start clapping, chanting and playing music. I have called the internet cafe and all they can say is we are closing soon!

I have tried to sound proof my bedroom, but it does not seem to be working. I have tried sleeping with my iPod on and noise canceling headphones on. Still nothing works!

Any ideas? I have to be up at 5:45am every morning so these 1 and 2am bedtimes can’t last for long!

headphones answers:

Assuming you are in England or Wales ( similar rules apply elsewhere in the Uk )
The local council has a statutory duty to 1) investigate alleged noise nuisances and 2) if they find such a nuisance exists to serve an abatement notice and 3) take enforcement action if the abatement ( stop it ) notice is ignored.
If the place is licensed to sell alcohol and or provide entertainment there should be a ‘summary of the premises licence’ displayed inside the venue saying what hours they can operate and what facilities they can provide.
Contact you local council licensing dept. They will explain what the venues licence permits and explain how to consider asking for a ‘review of the premises licence’ – a procedure whereby the activities are re-examined in the light of any alleged public nuisance or similar illegality and, if proven, improvements and restrictions can be imposed upon the ‘premises licence’.

Head Phones For Classical Music?

hi there,
I am looking for headphones for my ipod. I only am interested in headphones that allow you to have control of your ipod and have a inbuilt mic. for voice control.

I like listening to classical music and pop music too and am looking for a set that are noise cancelling or isolating under £160. I don’t mind if their in-ear or on ear as long as they look nice and sound good,

some one recommended the beats HD by dr. dre any ideas?

headphones answers:

Dr Dre are not at all durable. People here always have problems with them and then they find out that there is no customer service or support. I don’t even know if those have the inline mic but either way, they’re way overpriced. You probably aren’t looking for so much bass either. Check out SonyStyle.com and Altec-Lansing.com.

Lisa asks…

Headphone suggestions?

I’m looking for a new pair of headphones.

Criteria:

Under $150
Over/on ear
Focuses on Rock/Hip-Hop/Pop, but works well with Jazz and Classical
Clear sound
Loud bass, but not overpowering
Passive noise cancelling
Works well without a headphone amp
Doesn’t let noise escape
Comfortable
Stylish
Works well with iPod

If anyone knows any headphones that fit all or most of these specs, it would be much appreciated.

headphones answers:

I want to say Sennehsier HD25-1 or HD25 SP, … I’d buy nothing else with a $150-200 budget. I’m thinking Denon AH-D1100 headphones although i’m not sure of they have .. Gut thumping bass. I’ve got the Denon AH-D1001 and the bass is good, but not deep or booming.

I’m looking to DJ headphones (which the HD25-1′s are) but comfort and DJ headphones don’t really belong in the same sentense. Usually DJ headphones are big and bulky.

In terms of looks, i have got my eye on these Pioneer HDJ-500′s.

Http://portal.fakeheadphones.com/index.php?topic=813.msg2916#msg2916 – New Pioneer HDJ 500 headphones

The thing with DJ headphones is that they have a higher sensitivty, and so a headphone amp isn’t really needed. But if you have one …….

I like my Ultrasone DJ1 headphones, the Equation Audio RP21′s are classic.

Hope that’s enought for you to go on?

Jemima asks…

What are the best headphones i can get?

The only good headphones i know of are beats by dre but im sure there are better headphones you can get for 300 dollars which is my price range. I want closed headphones not the earbuds you inject into your ear. I am mostly going to use these head phones for indie alternative styled music that incorporates a lot of atmospheric sounds and at times bass (bands like Interpol). Noise canceling is also a must.
I will mostly be using them on an ipod and my music is all in mp3 320 kbps
Portability is NOT a concern
Thank you for all that help with my problem :)

headphones answers:

There are tons of good headphones. Here’s some of my experience.

Some of them:
Skull Candy – colorful but not really great sound quality wise
Beats by Dr. Dre – some models are really good
Bose – They might over bass some sounds
Sennheiser – Overall the best reviews
Audio Technica – Praised a lot for their quality
Beyerdynamic – Comfy, but I haven’t tried tunes with them.

My Bose headphones are getting old and have lost some of the acoustic quality they had. I’m considering the Sennheiser HD-555 which go for about $120.

One way to view which are the best rated is by sorting through reviews and you can view that here:

Mike asks…

BEST Sound Quality EarBuds / In-Ears For Under $100 USD…?

I just bought myself an iPod Touch and I’m really in the needs for a new SET of EarBuds / In-Ear headphones. I have very limited Cash to spend so I was wondering if anyone knoe whats the BEST SOUND Quality I can get for under $100 USD.
I will be shopping at Amazon, The models that I’ve heard is:

1. Bose In-Ears – (No Noise-Canceling)
2. V-Moda – (I don’t know which version is the best one)

headphones answers:

I recommend the new apple in ear headphones, they cost a cool $79 and have amazing sound quality. They are durable yet comfortable, and cancel out outside noise due to their design. They are amazing. I love mine. They are the best earphones i’ve ever had. Ever.

I too have an ipod touch (1st gen.), so trust me, this is what you want.

John asks…

Where can I find more replacement filters for my headphones?

I have harman/kardon earphones that I got free with my speakers for my car, and they’re by far the best set of ear buds I’ve ever had, they cancel sound, have excellent sound quality, and are very comfortable, but after a couple of weeks to a month of use(I use them a lot), the filter in the left ear filled and started to produce quieter sound, so I used one of the two filters supplied with the headphones to fix the problem.

here’s my headphones:

http://store.apple.com/au/product/TM086Z/A

it comes with 2 filter replacements, and a tool used to replace them. I’ve only had to replace my left filter so far, so I still have one left, but that means I ONLY have one left, so I need to find a way to get more replacements when I run out.

Anyone know where I can buy a filter replacement, either online or in a store? Also, they look like they’re probably specific to my headphones, but maybe not? How can I know, and are there filters for headphones in general that are easy to find?

Thanks

headphones answers:

Try Radio Shack or F.Y.E. Or Sam Goody stores.

You could always do a Bing search: http://bing.com/

I cannot order them online though so it has to be available at a store like Walmart, Sam’s, Best Buy, Radio Shack, Target etc. I looked at a pair at Sam’s but they were $40 and thats just not in the budget. I only need them to listen to music in my room but I want as high of a quality as I can get. If you dont know of any under $20 then I could probably do $30 as well. Any suggestions?

Thanks!! :)

Kirstie asks…

Best Headphone I can Buy under $350?

Right now I am using Bose Quiet Comfort 15.
Although it does what it’s supposed to do very well (noise cancelling)
I am not satisfied with the quality of the sound.
However, I am always a big fan of Bose headphones because they’re so comfortable on my ears.
Only reason I’m considering to switch my headphones is because the sound cancelling headphone makes my head a bit dizzy (im guessing because it sends out waves?) and because the sound quality itself isn’t as satisfying as other headphones that I paid the similar price for in the past.
Also, I hate that it relies so heavily on batteries.

I was considering Denon AH-D2000, which is around the same price range, but I don’t know how they are, so please tip me if you’ve used one before.

Overall, please suggest me an excellent headphone that I can confidently pay big money on to get the supreme comfortability that BOSE offers, with good sound. Doesn’t have to have noise cancelling. Let me know if they use batteries or not also. Thank you!
BTW, I listen to a little bit of everything, but especially the following genre
Classical music (piano)
high pitched vocal (like westlife, celine dione)
some rock and rap (so some appropriately heavy bass is appreciated – not insanely heavy like Dr.Dre’s)

headphones answers:

I have AH-D2000′s they’ll be a big improvement over the Bose as far as sound quality goes. They’re very comfortable, probably my favorite when it comes to comfort, they are however a bit loose fitting so you can’t really shake your head back and forth if you do that sort of thing lol. I really don’t listen to the first two genres you listed that much so i won’t comment.. But they will be great for rock and rap. They have deep bass and a more forward presentation for rock. I think Sennheiser HD600′s or 650′s will be better when it comes to stuff like classical, but the D2000′s will be better at rock and rap. I think those three would be the best in the sub 350 price range. So then it comes down to ‘open vs. Closed’ and what you listen to more often. All of them will require an amp, especially the Senns.

Oh, and if you’re coming from noise cancelling headphones you might be more comfortable with a closed headphone. They’ll let in and out less sound than an open headphone. It’s just something to consider, I don’t know if it matters to you. Denon=closed, Senn HD600/650=open

Cindy asks…

Can I return my Bose QC-15?

I know there’s a 30 day return guarantee for your Bose headphones if you don’t like them, so please don’t just say something like that, my case is a bit peculiar. I just ordered my Bose yesterday, and I ordered them with a 12-month payment plan, meaning I would pay $25 each month for a year until they were paid. I just paid $43 ($25 for the first month, $18 for tax). So, my headphones haven’t even arrived yet. My problem is I’m against leather (please don’t ask), and the ear-cushions on the Bose are leather. The website said nothing of the sort, I actually found it out on someone’s review (best buy also marks the ear cushions as being leather). Now, I don’t even really want them. If I had just paid full price, I’d have no questions, I’d return them, but it’s the payment plan that’s making it confusing for me. I’m a little worried to contact them since this is a bit cynical sounding (I just made a payment plan with them and now I’m trying to cancel it). I’m curious if anyone could give me any insight here.
Thanks, but they’ve already shipped, so I can’t cancel. I emailed them, hopefully their response will be good enough.

headphones answers:

I had the Bose QC15′s and returned them…
I can confirm that it is not leather – it doesn’t feel like leather, smell like leather. It should be a synthetic material – rubber/polymer mix.
Leather is too expensive for Bose to use on their equipment. I assure you that they use the mainstream “cheap stuff”.

You can always call bose to ask what they use. The person on the review site doesnt know what they are talking about… Or did not use “Genuine Leather” – I know this sounds stupid, but Leather and genuine leather has a difference.
Good Luck.

Studio Headphone Help?

For my Uni course it’s required that I have headphones for sound design and studio/recording purposes. They have to be noise cancelling, have a closed back, not to big (foldable?) and of resonable quality.

They model suggested is the Sony MDR7506, what do you think and can you suggest any other similar models?

headphones answers:

Do you really mean “noise cancelling” ? I think what you are really looking for is closed back (sealed) headphones – that in itself reduces noise transfer in and out. Noise cancelling is something else –

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_noise_control

Sennheiser HD 280 pro
Sennheiser HD 25-1 Mk-II are very good
Audio Technica ATH-A900
AKG K 272HD

It really depends on how much you want to spend… As a rule the more you spend the better the headphone. I don’t know of any that fold up like the Sony ones (aside from similar Sony models eg: MDR-V900HD)

Paul asks…

which headphones to buy?

i have a sony mp3 player with noise cancel function which i love to bits, unfortunately the earphones which were top spec of their time have given up the ghost, they gave out surround like sound, i want something that goes over my ears this time and i love hearing bass. any recommendations? money is no object if it will get me top quality sound.

headphones answers:

Sennheiser. Absolutely superb.

I listen to Wagner, Mahler, Nielsen and Robert Simpson – all very heavy and meaty classical composers and the Sennheiser headphones I have give resonant, distortion-free sound even at high volume. Bass reproduction is superalative.

Koss Pro4AAT Titanium Pro vs. Sony MDR-V700DJ?

I’m looking for quality and inexpensive headphones that have good noise canceling. I generally listen to metal, techno, and rap, along with ambient electronic music. Which of these have better sound?
Also, what about the Grado SR60s?

Steve asks…

looking for some good headphones?

For beat making. Some large noise-canceling ones would be good…my last ones were sony and were good but bass was inaccurate. Maybe some phones under 100 bucks that sound crispy clear? Looking for some speaker for my computer also if you guys recommend some too.

headphones answers:

Sennheiser is what you’re going to be looking for if your looking for headphones. For speakers you’ll be lookin at logitech or creative or some Sonys.

Richard asks…

Laptop PowerSupply creates audio interference?

My Sony VAIO creates a large audio interference whilst its 19.5V adaptor is plugged in. My laptop is wired up to my surround-sound kit via the headphone port. And this sound is extremely irritating.

How can I cancel out this electro-magnetic interference?

headphones answers:

You can’t. Laptops usually have their sound card built into the motherboard, and the background noise is usually cancelled out there e.g. The noise of your processor clock or your mains input. This implies that you have some loose circuitry concerning your motherboard and/or sound card. As its a laptop this is not worth fixing.
The other possibility is you have really poor speakers. So you may want to test them on another laptop, just to be sure as new speakers are cheaper than a new laptop in general =)

Cindy asks…

Why does music sound distorted when I use my Bose headphones (noise cancelling) on my MP3 player?

Music sounds fine with other types of headphones…and when I use the Bose with my CD player music is great also, ????
The Bose headphones are great for use on airplanes, or for use with my CD..it is only when I use them with my MP3 player that I have sound distortion.

headphones answers:

Make sure you have the headphones in your ears.

Lisa asks…

Bose Noise Cancelling vs. Beats by Dre Noise Cancelling Headphones?

Okay, I was wondering which noise cancelling headphones you guys liked better. Which have better sound quality, and/or which cancel the noise better. Just overall, likes and dislikes of one or both. I would really like to know you opinions on either product or if you have listened to both that would be great too. Thanks, I appreciate it.

headphones answers:

Depending on the models, the bose generally use Electronics to cancel noise and the beats just do it because they are full of insulation. As for sound quality, Bose have thatofficial bose sound, where as the beats tend to be bass heavy. They are both brand named products, and you will pay for that logo. I know the beats price are generally consist of a 50 – 60% general markup. Bose is more like 30%. So many times I have seen people get mad bause they broke their $300 headphones in a week. When in reality they are worth like $100. Honestly, do not do it. Get a good pair of actual studio headphones. Do not waste your money with all this branded mainstream junk.

Mandy asks…

Which Noise-Cancelling Headphones Should I get?

I want to get some really nice Noise-cancelling headphones, and I’m willing to spend the money to get them. Im just wondering which ones I should get. I know the Bose are good, but for 300 bucks, are they the best? I really want great sound quality too. Which headphones are the best?

headphones answers:

Bose Quiet Comfort 3 is pretty good, but you really are paying a lot for the Bose name. You can get an equivalent quality headphone from JVC HA NC 250 for $100.

The absolute best sound quality comes from the Sennheiser PCX 350 (best overall frequency response) or the Beats Studio by Dr Dre (much deeper bass). They are priced similarly/slightly less the the Bose.

All 4 headphones have similar great noise cancellation technology, which eliminates 85% of the background noise.

Here is a link to a good review site that makes it easy to compare the models and it has a link to Amazon so you can see user reviews from hundreds of users for each headphone. You can also buy from Amazon which has the best pricing right now.

What are great ON EAR headphones that CANCEL outside sound and deliver good QUALITY?

or bose around 100-200 i think

Headphones – noise cancelling and isolation?

I am a beginner drummer and i was wondering
what is the difference between noise cancelling headphones
and isolation headphones… i heard that some isolation headphones
are just for isolation and some isolation headphone are for isolation and listening to music..

i wanna know what noise cancelling headphones and isolation headphones are…

i wanna be able to play drum while listening to music on headphone…

also, can you please recommend me a great headphone which isolates exterior sounds?? a headphone for a beginner..

headphones answers:

Cancelling headphones:
only block out certain noise. Like a consistent noise that is continuously the same noise with no variation.

Canceling headphones have a active noise reduction system. Cancelling headphone electronically produce a frequency which, with varying degrees of success, cancel out white noise (constant mid-level sounds like airplane engines and track noise). They require a power source (a single AAA battery in one earphone or two batteries in an external case).

Source: http://gadgetronx.com/self-help.php?faq_id=63

isolation headphones:
shield the ears from external noise via passive acoustic means – the earphones / headphones are designed to minimize the amount of external noise that leaks into your ears.

Noise-isolating (in-ear) phones use a passive system, simply sealing the ear with a variety of silicon or foam canal sleeves (caps, tips, heads, or fittings). The silicon sleeves provides a reduction in sound of at least 30db or so from all outside noise this alone, sound is enhanced by being sent directly into the ear. The ratio of music to outside noise in the ear is, therefore, extremely high. Noise isolating inner ear earphones need no batteries, are lightweight and compact.

Nancy asks…

What kind of headphones should I buy?

I’m looking for a really nice pair of headphones with great sound quality. Preferably I’d like a pair of arround-ear phones. Definatley not in-ear buds.

I need them for everyday use with my iPod. Also, I want a pair that can block out surrounding noise well(Don’t want noice cancelling though).

Also, I’m gonna want to use them when I snowboad so they’ve gotta be pretty durable, and not be affected by lot’s of wind.

At first I was thinking about the Bose arround-ear headphones, but reviews say that they are easy to break and are useless when it’s windy.

I’ve got no price limit. What do you suggest a get?

headphones answers:

I would look into Sennheiser…they make all kinds of headphones…from small to professional….

They’re not cheap…but the sound is phenomenal.

Elizabeth asks…

Help with choosing headphones?

Okay so I want to het a pair of on ear headphones. I can spend anything up to £100 but would rather keep it below 70. Firstly, what make, I was thinking sennheiser was a safe bet?? Next, I only want the headphones for listening to my iPod, nothing professional, and I’m only 15 so they don’t have to be the most fantastic headphones the world has ever seen, but I want a nice clean sound. Also, I don’t particularly like everyone hearing what I’m listening to so noise cancelling would be a good idea. And the last thing is, and I know people have serious opinions on this, whether to go wireless. Bearing in mind I am only 15 years old and don’t wanna use them professionally, wireless would be amazing. Suggestions?
Thanks
xx

headphones answers:

Sennheiser are a very safe bet.
But just be sure you are buying from an authorized dealer, cause there’s a lotta fakes going around.

Wireless headphones are heavier, a bit lower in audio quality, and need recharged or batteries replaced. If you can mind those things, go for it.

Graham asks…

Would you keep reading?

This was my latest idea for a book, and keep in mind this jumps around a little and will need a lot more filler even in the little bit I already got. The long run would center around the genetic components of our parents actions, karma, being passed on without the acts ourselves. Life isn’t fair for those who try hard to succeed yet maybe it has nothing to do with them and is directly related to their parents actions. This is my 30 minute very rough draft… Any comments or suggestions appreciated… Good idea/Bad idea… Drop it now… Should I keep going with the idea… Whatever… Thanks much.

Karma — I sought out answers of who I am, and always came full circle back to this one little word. Are you a believer? Call it the truth or just a map of where I have been. Every part of my being aches for answers. I stared in the mirror looking for that truth. Only to see a stranger staring back. I am ____, and only I know who I really am.

From an outsiders perspective one might say, “she is a pessimistic self-involved stuck up bitch.” And from my perspective I see only a wounded soul. My childhood like so many others was less than perfect. Yet to everyone else it looked as though I had the world at my fingertips. My father was a judge at the local courthouse and my mother a homemaker with a brilliant art of baking. We lived in a 2600 sq. ft condo overlooking _____. My younger brother, _____, was the loner of the family. He knew early on that his path in life would leave him to be a survivor while my path was clearly to be the escape artist.

Growing up with a father that thought he was above the law made life in our little town only that much harder. In my eyes his honorable ______ could do no wrong. I idolized that man. Acted as he did, and loved being daddy’s little girl. We were two peas in a pod. Alike in not only looks, but had a lot of similar thought processes and flaws. Till the day I learned he was no better than the trash he so often put behind bars.
I was sixteen years old, and my life was ripped apart before my eyes, and there was nothing I could do to stop it. I woke up to the sound of my mother’s fierce screaming. I tensed, and could feel the waves of sound pierce my eardrum as if it were a freshly sharpened blade slicing through a deer hide on opening day of deer season. Ya know how a mother of a newborn can tell her infant’s cry from another. Her screaming had taken on its own identity, and over time I knew what they were fighting about based on the sound of her screams. Tonight, like so many other nights, my mom had caught him sneaking home at a late hour from the mysterious condo #6. I used to be curious as to who his late night rendezvous were with, but now I just don’t have the energy to care.

I dragged myself out of bed and opened the door to the bathroom that adjourned with my brothers room. Sheltering him from their infer orating blow outs was my number one priority in life lately. I cracked the door open so the light shined over to his bed enough for me to see he was still sleeping like a baby before I turned and headed back to the security of my room. I grabbed my ipod and the bose noise cancelling headphones I begged my father to get me on my last birthday. –If he only knew the only reason I wanted them was to drown out the sound of fiery blasting from their bedroom on a regular basis. – The view of the lake and the lighthouse was amazing. It could send you into an immediate trance watching the waves crash against the rocks lining the break wall. Some nights I could swear it worked better than counting those damn sheep that so often failed me. I sat on the fairytale window ledge overlooking natural freedom at its best crash in unison with my heartbeats when I heard my mother lose it for the last time. Not even my reliable headphones could mistake the pounding. I almost thought they were demolishing the building without the notice to evacuate it first… Pound after pound. My heart raced and just as I thought it might be over one last sharp slam made my me freeze and swallow my heart back into my chest. The front door had slammed and I heard my dad yell, “fine, leave, see if I care.”
I really can’t believe that’s what I just heard. Had he lost his criminally warped mind! I wonder if he realizes that he just pulled that line from a clique tragic romance movie set back in the second grade. As bad as it sounds I’m thankful _____ didn’t wake up, and even more glad that one of them walked out. One more second of the fighting would send me over the edge for sure.

Early morning came all too quickly. I rolled out of bed and threw on the first clothes I found on the floor. Its important to keep up appearances, but I doubted anyone would notice I wore this outfit on Monday being its Thursday now. It smelled fine and amazingly was wrinkle free. Oh god. If only nana could see me now. I can already hear her, “____________! Get b

Helena asks…

What type of headphones?

I was looking to get some new headphones soon, but I was not sure what type I should get. I’m getting a new iPod, which comes with small earphones, so I would like to get a pair of larger ones, that cup your ear. I would prefer to have noise cancelling earphones. Also, I would like to have the best possible quality sound (I’m an audiophile =P) and I would also like them to be sort of portable. Oh, and also, a detachable cable would be nice but not necessary. And the price range would be up to about $150 at the very most.

I realize this is a long question, but thanks for anyone’s help.
I know someone mentioned the Panasonics… How are these with portability?
Oh, and also, I wouldn’t be using these to, like, run with or anything. These would be used when I am on a plane ride, in a car, etc. So by portable I just mean that they are not too heavy or bulky so that I can carry them around relatively easily.

You should check out the Panasonic HC500 headphones on Amazon

http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-RP-HC500-Noise-Canceling-Headphones/dp/B000OKH6ZI/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1229201456&sr=8-1

they are exceptional headphones. I have had mine for several months, and they have already outdone the Bose headphones that i had previously owned until about last year.

The price discount on the Panasonic headphones is amazing, and they deliver exceptional quality. It also includes a detachable 3.5 mm cable, and a carrying case.
